Welcome
to the southern continent

D'Sanctine Weyr takes place in 10th Pass Pern. AIVAS was never discovered, and Thread still falls on the planet. Overpopulating causes stress in the Weyrs, which leads to the foundation of a new southern Weyr, dubbed D'Sanctine. A Hold is founded to support the Weyr, titled Sanctis Hold. Old riders and prospective candidates flock to the new Weyr for a chance at an easier, less crowded life, but the hatching of dragons of strange colors has left the more conservative holds and Weyrs in the north uneasy. The political atmosphere is tense as a drawn bowstring-- it is only a matter of time before the arrow is loosed.

what's happening!

Summer - P10 T16

5/4/17 - Mornings have been foggy thanks to warm days and cool evenings. There was recently a routine Threadfall that only resulted in a few injuries and no fatalities. The weyrfolk are gathering and brewing up some vats of numbweed to resupply, so a section of the Weyr is going to be awfully stinky for a few days.

4/1/17 - Fall has arrived, and with it pleasant breezes and the occasional storm. It's by no means cold, but it isn't as impossibly hot and humid as summer gets.

Marina had been monitoring Amra closely after her mating with the Bronze, Chirr. She watched as she became more and more agitated, her belly seemingly swelling with the heaviness of her eggs. She was restless and frustrated and didn't seem to know what to do. To be honest, neither did Marina. The idea of a clutch of wherraptors was intriguing, but thus far no bonded raptor had given birth at this point. Amra and most others she knew of had come from found eggs or wild clutches. She wasn't sure the best way to take care of her bonded.

So, instead of guessing, she used her knowledge of beastcraft and dragonkin. She brought Amra out to the Weyrbowl and together they contructed a nest, there was plenty of leafy green cover at the base of the tree that Amra chose, and she began digging out space at the roots.

Once the time came, about a month after the initial courtship, Amra laid six eggs, three were fairly small, two of medium size, and one that was quite large, Marina believed the largest to be another queen. Amra seemed to agree, laying her eggs in the root-bound nest, protected on either side from the roots, as large as branches. They were protected from the back by the trunk of the tree itself, and from the front, Amra stood watch when she wasn't sitting on them, the raptor giving extra attention to the largest egg.

Marina wasn't too concerned about the warmth of the eggs, the southern heat would ensure they developed nicely. She allowed Amra to sleep out there, for there was no tearing away the new mother from her charges. Marina had accompanied her a few of the nights at first, but gave up and moved herself to the nearby stables, setting up a cot there instead.

She checked on Amra at least twice daily when her other beastcraft responsibilities allowed her to. She regularly brought meat to the Queen, but other than needing to be fed, seemed quite adept at caring for her eggs without her handler's assistance. It was during a visit, thankfully that Amra perked up, It Time. The afternoon sun was warm and Marina jumped into action.

Others knew about her raptor's impending clutch, many had approached her about and asked if they could attend the hatching, of course all were welcome and they made sure they knew that. She found a stable drudge and set them to fetch at least 6 food bowls with chopped up meat. If firelizards did it that way, she figured it would work for the wherraptor hatchlings as well.

She found a green rider and told him of the hatching, giving coordinates to the location in the weyrbowl for any who were interested. The green relayed the message telepathically to any who were listening for it.

Marina then waited with Amra to see who would arrive and who might receive the raptor hatchlings. The bowls of meat arrived and she invited the servants to remain if they were interested. The bowls were larger than those they kept for firelizards, which was good.

She thought about the clutch and decided she might be tempted to keep a few for herself if few people showed up, but she would certainly need to rid herself of the largest egg, that didn't seem like a good idea to her.

Having done all his chores involving being a new wherhandler, Kibro headed from his den to find this woman who was offering a chance at getting wherraptors. He was interested in the tiny beasts for as long as he could recall. The behemoth of a man walked with his back straight, shoulders squared, a serious look on his face, and very intimidating eyes. The large man moved up to Marina once he had finally found the location before bowing slightly to her. "Thank you for allowing us the chance to try and impress on your bonded's young." He said with a heavy accent. "I am Kibro of White Quartz Kisk. I would like a chance to appeal to the young for them to choose me as their handler. Kisk would love to have play mates." He smiled warmly.

Sakura had had plenty of chances to see some raptors, particularily C'ven's pack wander about like a group of wolves on a hunt, and the tall woman had gotten quite interested. Though she had gotten a rather pretty looking lizard with see through wings, most of the time she had to keep that one in a tank, and she was not quite sure how wise it would be to wander around outside with it.

So when she learned about the first hatching, the weyrling headed for where she knew she had spotted the golden raptor hanging around every time she had been out in the bowl. Adreath is of course both curious and jealous, constantly asking wether the possibility of a new pet would take away attention from her. You should always have me as a priority, my darling! I am yours, and you are Mine, and I do not want anything to get in between us!

Of course, this would cause the woman to give hed dragon a gentle noogie, theathletic lady chuckling as her growing dragon makes a noise like a squeak. "Don't worry. Really. You can come see what is going on, and see if I am gonna end up getting anything. You would like to have a pretty looking friend, right?" with that the weyrling walks out of their room, and outside into the bowl, with her now flustered dragon following along and trying to hold her head high as if the rose quartz was perfectly content with the idea.

Soon enough Sakura was approaching where Marina and Amra are, watching curiously as a familiar looking man greets the woman already. "Huh, well at least we're not last here!" she states as she steps up to the other woman, grinning widely as she holds out a hand for a shake. "Hullo. Sakura of Rose Adreath. So there gonna be them wherraptors hatching?" Adreath tried to stay back, while also staying close enough to see where Amra was, tilting her head this way and that while judging the colouring and pattern of the gold. Well, she does look nice.... I suppose it might not be too bad...

Winny had met Marina not long after the last Turn's End, when the young woman had arrived at D'Sanctine with her stunning little raptor. Amra had been the very first adult wherraptor Winny had ever met, and being as nosy as she was, Winny had practically tripped over herself to meet the pair. She was sheepish to look back on it now, but she'd been nearly vibrating with enthusiasm and she had probably blabbered Marina's ear off, and after that they saw each other frequently around the stables where Winny kept her horses and pony. Marina was sensible and patient, and at one point, they had come to an agreement where Marina would look after Winny's horses and pony on days where Winny was in too much pain to do any heavy-lifting. Winny paid her a handful of marks every time she had to, and was at Marina's beck and call for anything that required a beasthealer.

Of course, Winny wasn't too subtle about her admiration for Amra, and about her desire to study and record everything she could about the gold raptor. Marina had been helpful, answering one seemingly endless string of questions after another, and when the time had come where Amra was courted by the only other adult raptor Winny knew of in the Weyr the subject of her clutch came up. Now, of course, Winny wanted to record this as well. There were few records on the relatively-new creatures, which she thought to be cousins of feral slasher wherries. She offered Marina all the advice she could give based on that, and whatever Marina had decided to do seemed to be working. Amra was, thankfully, a diligent mother.

If there was one indisputable fact within D'Sanctine, however, it was that Winny had a lot of pets. She had twelve firelizards she was Bonded to, four wherraptors and three wherfoxes-- not to mention three horses, a Pernabella and a feline. Between caring for her veritable zoo of critters, her dragon, and her work as a healer, Winny had little time for rest. Her leg forced her to fairly regularly, especially if she was overworked, which was perhaps a blessing in disguise.

Either way, she absolutely did not need to add another creature onto her long list of charges. Especially not another wily raptor hatchling; they got into everything. She wasn't sure how much of her furniture had escaped the chewing and scratching of the four she had already, and she was quite glad that their teething stages were long past.

Still, she almost hoped that one of Amra's clutch would choose her, or be chosen for her. Regardless, she intended to be there for the sake of witnessing a natural wherraptor hatching, the very first at D'Sanctine, and she came accompanied by her own four.

Ivy was the one who took the lead in most things when they weren't buddied up with Amra, who had just about adopted them as members of her pack from the early weeks of their life onward. She let out a few brassy caws as the lot of them approached the tree where Amra had kept her nest, breaking into a ground-eating jog. Birdsong and Clover weren't far behind her, the blue chattering to his green packmate before turning and sprinting after Ivy, followed closely by the smallest member of the four. Zinnia was more reserved, sticking close to Winny's heels as the greenrider limped along.

Hello, Marina! Hello, other friends, and Amra! The green dragon who brought up the rear of the procession nearly sang, eyes a bright and cheerful blue as she padded along behind Hers. Winny smiled warmly to the beastcrafter as she approached, saluting.

"Good afternoon," Winny told them, stopping near a woman with impressively vibrant magenta hair, which she complimented as an aside before Doriath plunked down behind her, whuffling at Sakura without reservation.

Yes, your hair is very pretty! It reminds me of my clutch-sister. Aurorith is very pink too! You are Adreath's, yes? It is good to meet you! And what is your name? You are a wherhandler, I can smell Yours on you! This second part was, of course, directed at Kibro.

Marina welcomed both Kibro and Sakura, with a nod and a "Welcome." She gestured to the bowls "Yes, the raptors will be hatching soon, I believe it will be fairly similar to a firelizard hatching if either of you have ever been to or see one of those happening."

Amra was hovering, cautiously nudging the eggs with her nose. Seemingly mollified, Amra retreated, settling next to Marina. There weren't really seats around the little nest but the grass was soft. Marina remained standing, but any would comfortable on the ground.

When the greenrider arrived, Marina's face lit up. Responding to Dori's greeting, Marina waved at the green and her blonde rider. As the other raptors approached, Amra let out a caw in greeting and then partially in warning. They were part of her pack, but that didn't mean she would let them too close to the eggs.

Not much time passed before the first crack could be heard, and one of the smaller eggs rolled on to its side. The crack spider-webbed across the pale shell as a sharp looking talon pierced the surface of it.

Amra ceased all movement and sound as she watched the first of her hatchlings, still not out of the shell. It was hard to discern any color, but then the cracks widened, and a fairly small looking raptor emerged. As it preened, it attempted to clean the fluid from its body, shivering a little in the open air. The creature was unmistakably white, with prismatic colors that appeared as light shown.

The White Quartz raptor hatchling shook off the last remnants of the fluid and finally cast his gaze around the small group that had gathered. He seemed hesitant to leave the little nest, but with a reassuring chirp from his gold mother, he ventured out. Becoming particularly interested with the other raptors in attendance.

Kibro held the bowl quietly and stood near Sakura as she was the only familiar face to him. He glanced to Doriath when she addressed him before giving her a nod. "I am Kibro of White Quartz Kisk. Kisk is sleeping in our room, but if you would like you and your's can come visit him any time you'd like." He smiled down to Winny. The massive handler made A'ryn look 'small' in a way. Kibro had height AND weight on her older brother.

When the first baby hatched and poked its head out, Kibro moved to sit down on the grass with the bowl in his lap. He wouldn't move nor say anything to them as he watched the little one. He would not try to lure the little thing to him to try and manipulate the impression.

Eilise had seen the golden Raptor in the bowl for the past few weeks. With a queen anything making a nest that meant that their would be a hatching soon. She had thought aboit it for a while, whether to go to this one or not. The weeks passed and word passed from a green that the raptor hatching was happening that day. Did she want to go?

At fist she ignored the call not really thinking she might have a chance, but seeing so few people at the hatching her mind changed. She started her wall towards the nest. As she got closer one of the smaller eggs hatched revealing a small white Raptor woth what looked like translucent feathers that had sun shining though them.

Eilise walled up to Marina with a grimace tjat was supposed to be a smile.

"Hello. Is it to late to join?" With the small amount of 'candidates' for the clutch the chance of being turned down was small but the gold handler stillight still say no.

Seeing the Queen Wherraptor close now she gave a bow to the little queen before turning to her handler agian.

A're was curious. He had seen the little feathered creatures all over C'ven's office. They seemed cute, and at least as intelligent as a firelizard. When he heard that there was a hatching taking place, he had Muraath carry him down into the Weyrbowl to check it out. There was, of course, no guarantee that he would gain one of the little feathered beasts for himself - but at the very least he wanted to see how this went!

Muraath was happy enough to take him, she also found the feathered creatures charming - like the tiniest of hatchlings even full grown. The pair of them landed a short ways away from where the hatching was being held, choosing to walk the remaining distance.

When she saw her, Muraath immediately made for the one-winged Doriath, striding over and settling down beside the younger green. She crooned a greeting, leaning lightly against the other's side. Hello! It's a nice day today, isn't it? Oh, look at the little fluff-creature! Her attention was immediately caught by the first of the hatchings, a brilliantly white ball of down feathers, glimmering iridescent now and then. Like a little gem! She lowered her head, resting her jaw upon her paws, and crooned at the little creature.

Chuckling A're settled in beside her, leaning against her neck. He smiled pleasantly and offered waves and greetings to everyone. "Hey! We were curious so... hope we're not intrudin'!"

After being greeted, Sakura would look to first at Winny and then up at Doriath when she was being unashamedly inspected by the green, her grin growing wider. "Well hello to you both! Thank ya kindly for the compliment! You are very pretty to look at too, what with the gold freckles and all!" she compliments the bubbly dragon, causing Adreath to quickly move over upon feeling that she might be ignored. Mine has very pretty hair, yes! She added colour to it recently so it would not be so dull!

The much smaller rose had decided to plop herself right beside Doreath, and while she would definitely deny it, it was likely so she can watch and commandeer the attention of Her's. She did get so peeved whenever the woman complimented someone or something else other than her. But then again... I wonder if I will grow to have gold freckles too.

As there was some cracking of eggshells, Sakura would quickly pick up a bowl and sit down crosslegged on the ground. Her eyes keenly on the nest, she would grin when the first to come out is a rather pristine, if at the moment fluffy hatchling. "Now that looks like a cute one." at first it had seemed like there would not be too many people around, but she was glad to see two more persons approach. Giving them a wave, the pink haired woman would focus back on the hatchling. This up close, she felt about as excited as when she had gotten Adreath!

The White Quartz had not ventured too far when another egg gave a loud crack, coming apart all in one, rather than slowly cracking, the creature that emerged had the dark burnished color of something in the yellow or orange range with colorful plumage of reds and purples.

The much larger brother inspected the little White Quartz curiously before casting his glance around the group inquisitively. He wasn't sure exactly what it was he was looking for, he just knew there was something he should be paying attention to, he had to figure out what that was.

The White Quartz began venturing out further, and with an encouraging croon from his Gold mother, he began casting his glance around, perhaps a little nervously. His attention was caught when he spied someone with bright pink hair. The hair was bright and colorful and he liked that, he was so pale after all!

The White Quartz nudged the seated woman and stared at her intently, waiting to see if he could have a chance at the food bowl she had in her possession.

Friendly White Quartz

Hex Code
#f4f8fa

Size
1.2’ at hip, 3.5’ long - Medium for rank

Personality
Appreciative - Vivacious - Loyal

Bonded to
Sakura

Description
This white quartz has a big energy about him, but it is tempered by his loyalty. He will always do his best to avoid displeasing his bonded, though whether or not he understands what his bonded wants will be a huge indicator of whether or not he is successful in this endeavor. Perhaps a little less intelligent, he remains appreciative to those that care for him. This care will win his loyalty and create a lasting friend for life.

The bronze sniffed around those gathered, stopping briefly at Kilbro and examining him. He moved on though, not sensing exactly what he was looking for. He examined the pink haired woman his much smaller brother had just chosen before moving on again.

As the Bronze searched another egg was shaking violently, a crack appearing in its shell. The egg was on the smaller side, but certainly not the smallest. Amra paid attention to the egg, and so did Marina. The beasthandler waited with baited breath to see what might come next.

Oh... Oh darling look, there is another hatchling! Oh, and the first one is approaching! Adreath would fuss, but excited and anxious about the possibility of Her's having something as pretty as herself bonding to the human woman. As for Sakura herself, whe kept watching with a wide grin. Perhaps she was a little bit biased now, but she in fact did prefer the colours of this white one as opposed to the larger bronze that just hatched. Sure the other was just as handsome, but rather than yearning for the biggest ones, the pink haired woman found herself attracted towards the smaller beings.

And perhaps it was this that drew the white hatchling to her, the fluffy creature simply prodding her and then waiting patiently. Giving a soft chuckle, she would offer the bowl to the small raptor that would immediately dig in with delighted chirrs. "Guess you're part of the family now, eh? You're gonna need a name though. Hmmm..." she would inspect the plumage of the hatchling now that it was closer, humming in a pondering manner. She was not quite sure, but she had heard of a pet already named Prism, and she wanted to be original first and foremost, even if her new bonded had colours suited for such a pretty name.

".....What do you think about Chroma? Adreath?" she would point the question at the still feeding raptor as well as her dragon, the rose quartz blinking a few times, but absolutely delighted that her opinion was asked. Ah! Well, it sounds rather... Strong, does it not? Perhaps a bit too much? she offers, though the hatchling would look up, tilt his head to the side before hopping in an excited manner, chirring and cooing even more before resuming the gobbling of meat with even more of a purpose. ....Perhaps it suits him just fine after all. the still growing dragonet amends after seeing the display of pure joy, making the pink haired woman grin ever wider. "Chroma it is then."
