Welcome
to the southern continent

D'Sanctine Weyr takes place in 10th Pass Pern. AIVAS was never discovered, and Thread still falls on the planet. Overpopulating causes stress in the Weyrs, which leads to the foundation of a new southern Weyr, dubbed D'Sanctine. A Hold is founded to support the Weyr, titled Sanctis Hold. Old riders and prospective candidates flock to the new Weyr for a chance at an easier, less crowded life, but the hatching of dragons of strange colors has left the more conservative holds and Weyrs in the north uneasy. The political atmosphere is tense as a drawn bowstring-- it is only a matter of time before the arrow is loosed.

Summer - P10 T16

5/4/17 - Mornings have been foggy thanks to warm days and cool evenings. There was recently a routine Threadfall that only resulted in a few injuries and no fatalities. The weyrfolk are gathering and brewing up some vats of numbweed to resupply, so a section of the Weyr is going to be awfully stinky for a few days.

4/1/17 - Fall has arrived, and with it pleasant breezes and the occasional storm. It's by no means cold, but it isn't as impossibly hot and humid as summer gets.

There came a time, every now and then, at least once a Turn, that gold Peaches got herself into something of a fuss. S'ind knew what it meant, though he had no energy for it this time, with the death of his Weyrmate. He turned over in his bed and tucked the blankets over his head, blocking out the world and the lust coming from the firelizard. She could have her flight. He would lay there and enjoy what lingered of his Weyrmate's scent on their sheets.

Peaches had worried and fussed over her chosen human since it had happened, but today was for her. She stretched her wings, her neck, her tail; even as she took a few steps to strech her legs out, she knew what was coming. She knew she had a reputation among some of the riders for having abnormal clutches, and she took pride in that. Maybe this, too, would be an odd one?

Fully stretched and feeling ready, she threw herself into the air and from their weyr with a screech, calling mentally and verbally to those who might chase her. Whether from her own fair or not, she invited all: in fact, she rather enjoyed when those from another Queen's fair gave chase, hoping she could attract them permanently to her own. She was one of the oldest queens in the Weyr. Did she not deserve a large following of her own?

And how better to attract them than a mating flight?

Arpeggio heard the call. He'd been out catching small fish in the Weyr lake when she golden form of Peaches. He immediately began to sing to her, an enticing croon as soon as he launched himself from the ground, his prey left to flop on the rock to be snatched up by some wild predator of other. He flashed his wings, performing a quick areal loop to show his markings off to her. The bronze was clearly not about to give up. A flick of his tail, a twitch of his wings and he was behind her, for now.

He watched her every move, his singing not stopping for a moment. He would be a suitable match, would he not? Surely he would produce strong children, good hunters, with beautiful markings. After all, just look at his? Of course that did not compare to the golden beauty pulsing before him. He was but a shadow in her wake. A twist of his body, a quick barrel roll to show himself off again. He was in good spirits lately, despite several failed catch attempts in the past.

He searched the sky for other suitors, certain there would be some at some point, a low hiss of agitation sounded when he spotted a familiar crimson shape on the horizon. Damn that ruby! Not today! He refused to be sucked into a battle with that one, though he loathed the other's very presence. At the very least, he would thwart Blood's plans. He hissed again, before turning his attention back to the object of his desire. Peaches. Once more, the singing picked back up, a merry tune now, full of hope and happiness.

Was it time to chase again? The ruby heard the call. He wasted no time. Blood was going after this Queen, no matter how it would agitate Morticia. Besides, the Obsidian that belonged to his bonded was young still. Of course, Blood was of foul temper, and it showed quickly as he caught up to Peaches and Arpeggio. The ruby hissed loudly, angrily, though for the moment, he did not attack the bronze. They both had their eyes on the prize.

He was no singer. But his calls were loud, easy to be heard. He flashed the markings on his wings, performing a few barrel rolls and a loop de looop to show his agility. He was a fine male, wasn't he? He could easily give any bronze a run for its money! His tail snapped like a whip, and he beat a powerful downward beat, before gliding along. He wasn't going to use all his energy just yet. This was a queen, and this would test his stamina. Of which he had plenty to boast about.

He eyed the golden female, calling to her again, a screeching sound rather than anything music and melodic. Primal and urgent, he beckoned her attention. His eyes whirled red with rut, anger, and agitation. He was not above playing dirty, including attacking others. But that would wait. He would wait until she showed signs of starting to tire. Then he would ring out his less than savory tactics. Not that they'd done him any good so far.

It was time.

Larkspur was in the air before he'd even finished the thought, one of the very first pursuers in the air-- if not the first, immediately hot on Peaches' heels. He had adored the large golden queen since the day he had met her, a wee hatchling at the time; she had groomed him and cuddled with him, and he was smitten. She was just so lovely, no less beautiful for her plainness in comparison to the painted offspring that she produced. Of course, he was biased, but he found her more fetching than any other.

Singing to her his intent, Larkspur made it very clear to her that he was chasing this time. Of course, last time, he had been too little to go after her-- but he had still been bitter for days with His for holding him back. He was obligated to at least attend his queen! It was a fact at the very back of his mind as he beat wings that glittered like crushed gemstones, the sunlight reflected off his vibrant hide.

Larkspur sang to her his triumphs, his discipline, his dedication, his utter devotion to her even in the face of Winny's queen's petulance. He sang to her how protective and doting he would be on their nest; as doting as he had been to her up until this point, and as doting as he would continue to be to her whether or not he won her flight. No matter what, there was only one star in his sky, and she was as enrapturing as the sun, her brilliance outshining the twinkle of any other!

He ignored all of the other males who might come to chase. Of course, Peaches deserved every male who rose to her call! Besides, how could Larkspur prove himself to be better than any other if he had no competition? Still, he would not entertain any acts of aggression, deliberately steering clear of a yellow-footed ruby, recognizing him from past flights as a ne'er-do-well. No petty squabble would distract him from Peaches!

Kit lifted his head and cocked it to the side, listening with interest to the golden Queen's screeches. He had been curled up in his human's bedding, snug and comfortable, but the Queen's cry suddenly made him feel decidedly less so. He needed to do... something. Couldn't lay still anymore! Others in the room stirred as well - the greens grumbling and the blues lifting their heads in interest, then sighing and lowering them again. They had no chance in a Queen's flight. Kit, however...

He had been intrigued when the other Queens had flown, when Ammolite herself had flown, but... it wasn't quite like this. He chirped to himself and turned about, stretching his wings and tail, then hopped into the air. Now was as good a time as any to see what this was all about! He gave a chatter to his fairmates, then slipped between coming out again in the air above the weyrbowl. It took him a moment to get his bearings, but then he tipped his wings and dove, joining the colorful tail following golden Peaches.

He chirped and chattered at the other chasers, winging closer, then past them to turn his interesting chatter to the Queen. Hello! Wasn't she pretty, glittering like that. He didn't chirp and sing about his strong points as a mate - this was his first flight, after all, and he didn't yet realize that was what one did. But he did offer a happy stream of compliments and comments, twittering and chirping like a friendly little bird.

There were options, and Peaches was glad for that, but it wasn't enough. It would never be enough for her, not in the middle of a flight, and she shrieked her displeasure with those giving chase, making that apparent to them. She darted through the sky with ease, using the strength of her body to drive her forward, forward, forward. And a little up.

Slim options indeed. A bronze she did not know well, whose markings intrigued her. He looked like he could be one of her own, but she did not know. She didn't keep track. It didn't matter, not in things like this. He sang, but she didn't care for such pleasantries. Did he ever stop? She would have liked to clamp one of her paws over his mouth to shut him up, but he was attractive.

A ruby, she was certain her own son, but again she did not care. If he could fly well and hold his own, he would make for a suitable mate, for now. She didn't care to keep a mate for long periods of time, not unless he expressed true devotion. He had a fire in him that could be admired, him hissing with aggitation. He showed himself off as much as the bronze did. She appreciated his primal sounds, in comparison to the singing.

An amethyst dared to follow. Larkspur, darling Larkspur, who Peaches adored above all others. His devotion was heartwarming, his singing sweet to her ears. She even crooned invitingly to him, admired the glitter of his hide. He had always been a striking specimen, even as a hatchling. He was honest and good, and she knew everything he sang to her to be true.

And a silver, attractively marked and surprisingly did not sing to her, but he did chatter quite a bit. She was a Queen of action rather than words, but she understood it was the way of things. She could not fault him for doing as others did, and anyway usually blocked out the noise suitors made when they followed her. Still, the compliments were appreciated...

She slowed just slightly to get a better look at her options, to give them a chance to keep up, and then jumped between a short distance to gain her lead again. Not too far, of course, because she wanted them to chase, but maybe four of her own body lengths. Enough that none of them could try to catch her because she had thought to inspect them. And while she flew mostly straight, she threw in a twirl here or there, warbling invitingly to them!

OOC: Sorry it's so late. Make some catch attempts and I'll wrap this up!

Arpeggio seemed to catch onto Peaches' displeasure, and the singing ceased, perhaps followed by a slightly apologetic note. But he would not give up. There was indeed some stiff competition in this group. and he had hoped to be able to join Peaches' fair. He probably would, even if he wasn't chosen. She was lovely, and generally even-tempered, as far as he could tell. Arpeggio wasn't uptight, but he was determined. He knew being new probably slimmed his chances, but he hadn't had much chance to mingle with other firelizards, aside from that damned ruby who would forever be a thorn in his side.

He kept pace. When she zigged, so did he, when she zagged, he was there. Any diversion in her flight was matched by him, though perhaps not -perfectly- but not awkwardly in a manner that would cost him distance. Then, she flashed between. Though it was brief, he called out to her again, loud and boisterous, but it was not singing, though it would seem even his cries for attention might have an overall pleasing note to them. He blinked after her, wings tilting and carrying his body carefully.

It was time. He knew others would be coming in at various angles, but he opted to try from the bottom. Spinning over, he flew upside down towards her instead, carrying himself closer to her. His talons outstretched, a clear attempt to tangle with Peaches' own. He would carry her for as long and far as she would need.

Blood hissed, his foul temper all the same towards any nearby. However, he seemed to be able to tell the Queen favored Larkspur, so even though there was a lot of posturing on his part, there was not actual attacking. wouldn't do to piss off the Queen, especially right now. He snarls as she blinks ahead, that bronze hot on her trail. This wouldnt' do at all. Mother or not, he would give his all to this Chase, as he had the others he'd been a part of.

He did not blink between but he did speed up, his ruby hide shimmering as he let his lust fuel him. If any got too close, they would be quickly snapped at, clawed, or bitten. He cared not, but it also seemed he had a personal vendetta against Arpeggio for whatever reason. He followed Peach's patterns near-perfectly, not letting her gain too much distance, aside from what she just had from winking between.

He snarls at arpeggio as the bronze comes up from the bottom. He opted for an above maneuver, carrying himself until he was gliding over Peaches' shimmering form, and then he dove at her, his clear intent to yank her right out of Arpeggio's grasp if he could. His eyes whirled red with anger and lust, and still he called to Peaches. Loud, confident, and as determined as the bronze had been.

Though the smallest of her pursuers, Larkspur was no less determined. Big, bossy bronzes and that foul-tempered ruby who had menaced nearly every flight since his maturation-- Larkspur steered very clear of Blood, using his size to his advantage in weaving nimbly through the flock of Chasers. He would not be distracted from his goal, from the lady love of his life! He had adored the fair queen from the day that he had met her, and he would make up for having been unable to participate in her last flight. It didn't matter that he hadn't been old enough. He should have been there!

Tipping his wings and then adjusting the trim as he sang and warbled at her, he paid very close attention to her every move. He tried to conserve his stamina, not wasting time on fancy tricks beyond angling himself to better display his gemlike coloration. He was the Weyr's very first amethyst firelizard, after all. He was a handsome devil, was he not? He would use every advantage he could, determined to win Peaches' embrace. If nothing else, he would prevent that awful ruby from succeeding.

After Peaches had blinked ahead, Larkspur put on a burst of speed and sailed through his competition with ease. While he wasn't especially strong, and he'd never go as far as a bronze, he was faster than the bigger males on Peaches' tail and he could close the distance faster. When she began to tire, or perhaps she was just bored of the race, he picked out the signs and saw his opportunity. Bringing his tired wings in without closing them entirely, he darted in beneath the queen and neatly twisted, shining claws reaching out for hers. He had proved his devotion since the day he joined her fair, never wavering in his dedication even when faced with an ornery queen such as Tempest! He would apply that devotion once more to Peaches' eggs, their eggs!
