Welcome
to the southern continent

D'Sanctine Weyr takes place in 10th Pass Pern. AIVAS was never discovered, and Thread still falls on the planet. Overpopulating causes stress in the Weyrs, which leads to the foundation of a new southern Weyr, dubbed D'Sanctine. A Hold is founded to support the Weyr, titled Sanctis Hold. Old riders and prospective candidates flock to the new Weyr for a chance at an easier, less crowded life, but the hatching of dragons of strange colors has left the more conservative holds and Weyrs in the north uneasy. The political atmosphere is tense as a drawn bowstring-- it is only a matter of time before the arrow is loosed.

Current Events
what's happening!

Summer - P10 T16

5/4/17 - Mornings have been foggy thanks to warm days and cool evenings. There was recently a routine Threadfall that only resulted in a few injuries and no fatalities. The weyrfolk are gathering and brewing up some vats of numbweed to resupply, so a section of the Weyr is going to be awfully stinky for a few days.

4/1/17 - Fall has arrived, and with it pleasant breezes and the occasional storm. It's by no means cold, but it isn't as impossibly hot and humid as summer gets.

Is time, Kalesk rumbled, shaking herself as she rose this 'morning' (or rather, early evening) from sleep. Kalen sat at a desk in the den he shared with Kalesk and Xun, working at cleaning and polishing a loop of belt from Kalesk's harness. He set the length of leather down with some concern at Kalesk's warning. The gold wher's hide all but glowed with warmth in the low light of their den, set to glimmering in the light of the glows.

He had seen this coming in her general irritability of late, could feel her discomfort and uncertainty. Who would Chase her? What males were there here that were worthy of her? None of them had made a distinct impression upon her since her last Run, save Xunsk who was now dead. She growled and lashed her tail - she was uncertain still, but there was no putting it off, no hoping one of the males here would do something that might impress her. Surely one would prove themselves now, when she Ran...

Find Xun. I go. She gave Kalen no more time than that before she turned and bounded out into the halls. She would blood a kill, would take out her frustrations upon the meat, and then she would Run and see who gave Chase.

When she reached the feeding pens she savaged a small cow, tearing into it's hide, ripping into it's throat and glutting on it's flowing blood. When she had had her fill, she left the carcass in tatters and let loose a booming howl, screaming her desires to the moon. COME. I Run! Who would Chase?

Her desires given voice, the golden queen lashed her tail and took off, leaping out of the feeding pens and tearing off into the fields of the weyrbowl.

Xun looked up from where he was. He'd been busy, it would seem. Trying to keep himself occupied, he'd watch lessons from a distance so as not to interfere, mostly checking on his sister. The pair had been in a conversation when Kalesk's call came. He stiffened, inhaling sharply. He looked to Alu, and patted her. "I have to go. Kalen needs me."

He made a promise, and Xunsk or no Xunsk, he'd not leave Kalen alone during this time, a chance for another to take his weyrmate. That might very well end in violence. Kalen had many friends here, or at least, acquaintances. Xun, not so much. But it didn't matter. Kalen was his, and he'd guard the other just as fiercely as his wher would guard Kalesk when he was alive.

He came into the den, smiling. Already, he was flushed, but he was quick to grab Kalen and pull him against his body, which was unsurprisingly devoid of clothing. "She runs, and you run with her. When she is caught, my promise will be kept. Mine is the embrace you will feel, my heart."

So speaking, he led Kalen to their bed, to hold and caress, touching while Kalen focused mostly on Kalesk and this second run.

The bronze beast was crafty. He'd lived in the wilds a long time, to judge by his scarred hide and greying muzzle. Apparently blind in one eye, he'd been skirting this place for a while now. There were whers here, and humans, but he wasn;t precisely interested in joining them. He was old. He was packless, or at least, there didn't seem to be any others nearby. But he had a pride about him. He knew when the gold started her run. He'd been watching, for a few days now. And now she was running through the fields, and it would seem she had no pursuers? What insult was that?

He would fix that. He might be old, but he wasn't dead by a long shot. And his blood was still quick to heat when around a heated female. If no others would Chase, then he certainly would, the nameless beast that he was. No bonded, apparently a loner, but also opportunistic. And this was a great opportunity to potentially pass his genes on yet again.

With an answering bellow, he'd gallop along behind her, seeming to come out of nowhere through the thick grasses that had concealed him. He was not as large as the Weyr bronzes, perhaps necessity keeping him a little smaller, but he wasn't unworthy either. His muscle rippled beneath the scarred hide, and his wings unfolded as he leapt, letting them carry him for a shirt glide before coming down with a crash.

She was beautiful. He let her know this. Shining as she was, and running with such grace. He would run with her, he would catch her if she permitted, and then, she would produce fine offspring. How could she not? Look at him. He walked away from many battles, is his hide told a story, while the slightly greying muzzle spoke of many years experience. He rumbled to Kalesk again, his paws thudding upon the ground, claws digging deep for traction to he would not slip.

The large beast lifted his head, rising from where he crouched in the trees. His hide shone like ice in the moonlight, his wings near-reflective as he flared his nostrils. He paid no mind to the herdbeast that fled as soon as he made his presence known, but it was of no consequence; his quarry had suddenly, unexpectedly, changed. Talon-like claws dug furrows into the forest detritus, such a pleasing sensation, and then he lunged forward, crashing into the clearing between a copse of tall, skinny trees with a loud bay.

There were many males throughout the jungle of all hues and saturations, some deep bronzes with green undertones like moss in their hide, and blues bright as skies. Some browns, milky like the insides of trees or dark like the bark. There should be a pleasing array of suitors for Kalesk, but as he caught glimpse of golden hide down in the valley, he saw and smelled only one pursuer yet.

The other was a bronze, old and grayed and scarred. The silver curled his lip, accentuating the wrinkles already present on his snout as he let out another bay to announce his intent and his presence. He raced along the cliffs just above the pair before leaping off a lower slope, spreading wide wings to allow some balance and parachute for his descent. It was a long distance down that he probably could not safely jump, so after a split second he disappeared and then reappeared below, landing heavily before twisting and racing after Kalesk and the bronze to catch up.

Perhaps the other was grizzled and experienced, but he was young, full of energy and life. He had many years yet before his joints grew stiff, had hunted for himself ever since he left the pack he was born into, his body was fit and he could protect her and their eggs well. He knew that he was also uncommon, in color and in ability; as a wild wher, he should not be capable of going between like the firelizards, but he had watched. He had learned. He remembered, somehow.

Kalesk glanced back, indignant anger burning in her blood even as mating lust did. Only two males had deigned chase her, both strangers. None of her own pack had given chase, none from her home. Not even Dusk, whom she had been sure was hers, even if none of the others were. The sense of betrayal ran hot through her mind - and back in their den, Kalen sobbed with it, collapsing into Xun's arms. He was weak, but she was not. The sense of alone-ness hurt, but it was a hurt that made her angry.

No! The golden queen rounded abruptly on the two males who gave chase, her maw parted in a furious scream. Strangers! Intruders! She lunged for the nearer of the two males, the graying bronze, her teeth snapping shut inches short of his hide. She brought an abrupt halt to the chase, her wings flared out and tail lashing with aggression, eyes as crimson as the heat that coursed through her body. She hated that heat now, that it bid her give in, give up - one of these two would see it cooled, surely. But they were not pack, were not hers! Strangers would not stay to guard a nest!

A sheen of silver caught her eyes, and she turned her body to give the younger male her side as he approached, her teeth bared in a furious snarl. Young and hearty and healthy, or old and strong and experienced? Either would sire fine young but... When the silver came closer, she howled and lunged at him, swatting out with one of her claws forelimbs to rake across his muzzle, just short of his eye. When he recoiled she bared her teeth and hissed breath violently past them. Oh, if she could flame, he would have had a face full of it.

Both males had recoiled and abruptly she turned, fleeing again - still furious, but unable to find satisfaction with them. They had recoiled from her assaults rather than challenge her, she would have no satisfaction in savaging them - they would not fight back, her fury would not cool. But she had not gone far before she caught wind of them following again - more cautiously perhaps, but a little bloodshed hadn't cooled their desires either.

She let them chase, made no further move to stop them. She ran and ran, hoping that would cool her anger - and in time it did, as exhaustion pulled heavily at her limbs, bid her slow. It mattered little to her which of them caught her, whichever came at her first was the one she accepted as a mate - with a bit of growling, angry still but too tired anymore to fight it.

Back in the safety of their den, Kalen's face was damp against Xun's chest, and he had made himself small, trembling in the other's arms. It was worse for him this time than it had been the last, his queen's emotions too strong. Still, he was grateful to have the comforting presence of his own mate to hide in, to distract him once Kalesk's exhaustion released his mind back to his own body.

"Thank you," he murmured, his voice a little thick, and pressed a salt-tasting kiss to the taller man's jaw in seeking out the other's lips. He let Xun lead them to distraction, glad enough for something to focus on that was not the bitterness that had overcome his wher.

The silver too was surprised to find that only he and the other feral bronze pursued the Weyr queen. Were there no males in the Weyr to chase her? He had been sure that at one point there had been. There was wher-scent in all their patrol places. It could not be that such a large gathering of dragonkin would be possessing of no able-bodied browns and bronzes, or others such as himself or the rare ruby. Perhaps it would serve him well that there was so little competition, but while the thinking part of him intended to seize this opportunities, he also thought maybe this meant there would be future opportunities to take.

Kalesk's sudden fury as she whirled on both he and the other male startled him, and he slid on his hind paws to slow himself as one of her large forepaws lashed out and raked across his muzzle. Ichor streamed down over his face, half-blinded him as he snarled and shook his head. She may have gouged out his eye by chance, with how much it hurt and how much fluid ran down his cheek and the side of his maw. His pause was enough to be taken for hesitation, and then she was off again, still enraged.

Perhaps he would have understood better if he was not so infuriated himself, the injury periodically distracting him with its intense hurt. But he was a silver, a wild thing who had survived up until this point, suffered injury that had scarred his moonlight-colored hide before. It would mean nothing if he didn't win, and he lunged forward with a howl to rejoin the Chase. It wouldn't be the first mating run that had included violence and resulted in bloodshed, either. Wild queens were much more openly vicious than this Weyr-bred one.

This time, he hung back just enough so that he could keep her within his sight while giving himself the room to react before she could give him another abrupt clawing. He curled his lip, his open eye-- perhaps now his only eye-- a bright scarlet with a narrow yellow and orange point at their centers, tinged at the very edges with a reddish purple. He was stubborn, driven by a carnal instinct that drowned out the ache on his face. He might not fight the gold, the queen who might carry his eggs, but he would be prepared to turn on the bronze in a second and fight for the right to mate. She grew weary, it was visible in her movements, and he knew that the moment of her choice was fast approaching.

The older bronze saw her whirls, and turned his face as she swiped at him. New gashes from her teeth and talons appeared on his hide. He rumbled quietly, catching a lot of anger and hurt in the Queen's emotions, and even himself, felt indignant -for- her. From what he was able to gather, there were others here, and he could smell them as well as the young silver. He would be insulted and angry to, and he pitied those of her pack who did not heed to her call. Shaking his head like an old bull, the bronze crooned to her. He did not seem entirely prone to aggressive antics, the silver youth that made his bid for her given little more than a huff. He'd not be fighting, at least not without provocation.

Confusion in Kalesk's mind, and he would do his best to soothe. [color=gold]Will stay, if allowed. If chosen, strong young. Powerful. Guard nest. Protect Queen till hatch.[/gold]His wings extended as he leapt forward, landing with a heavy thud. Powerful hindquarters kept him going, his age not slowing him at all. He sideglanced his competition with another huff, his talons digging down into the dirt as he followed the path of the golden queen. He knew she was tiring, and he picked up his own pace, barreling after her as the time grew nearer.

He was nearly upon her flank, nudging against her hindquarters in a bold and suggestive move, before he backed off some. His tail waving back and forth, keeping him upright and steady. Though the wound hurt, in his lust, he barely noticed it. Once this was over, perhaps then he would. He would be a good partner, wouldn't he? Age, experience, though he didn't have the flashy color of the silver, which in itself was probably worth some respect that the younger male had managed to survive so long with the mutation. Still, he moves in again, huffing as he focuses on the prize, promising good young, and protection from tunnel snakes, and remaining, at the very least, until the young hatch.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Xun cries out in surprise as Kalen falls into him. What was going on? He couldn't see into the minds of any of Kalesk's pursuers, and he pulls his mate against his chest as Kalen breaks out into sobbing. For a brief moment, he worried that something had happened to Kalesk, but he soon realized it only was a matter of this run being overly emotional. Kissing along Kalen's neck, his hands caressed his lover's body, pulling him away from the turmoil, to get him to the now. Even without the addition of Xunsk, his passion was no less intense and fiery, and hopefully enough to distract Kalen from the turmoil and confusion this run was clearly causing him.

[ Well, I meant to leave it a mystery which one caught her, but. >> If you two want them to fight over it, that is up for you guys to figure out. ]

Kalesk tired, her run slowed to a jog, and then a walk. She heard the males crashing through the brush behind her, heard them nearing. One of them nudged at her haunch, a question in the gesture, and while she lashed her tail and growled, she did not snap at him. She barely even glanced back to see that it was the bronze, although the silver was not far behind him. Either of them would do.

But the bronze was closest, and the bronze had reached out to speak to her, to assure her that he would stay and guard the nest. She wasn't sure that she could believe him, but at this point it was better than nothing. He would stay and be true to his word... or he would not, and she would have to rely on Hers to serve in that role. She growled again, baring her teeth back at the nearer male, but her posture shifted to indicate a willingness to accept him.

You, then, she voiced, the words weary. The bronze would be her mate, at least, so long as the young silver did not attack him. The silver did carry himself as if he expected to fight. She would not stop them if they fought, hadn't the desire to try. Perhaps, even, a bit of spilled blood might lift her spirits some.
